Small but Terrible

When David faced his biggest opponent, Goliath, he was just a young lad. He hadn't developed a lump of muscle on his bicep yet. His voice was like the sound of croaking toads. He was so skinny, just like any teenager you can find on the street today. Well, his opponent was the exact opposite of him. Goliath was big, tall and an experienced warrior. But we all know how the story ended, pimpled-face David, with his curly hair dangling before his eyes, come to Goliath in the name of God, put a pebble on his slingshot aimed, and Boom! There went the giant tumbling down. David brought victory to his dishearted and cowering nation. He, a mere boy, brought immense to the defeated spirit of his people

BEFORE:

CURRENTLY:

No better narrative would tell the story of Pines City National High School (PCNHS) than the story of David. It is true that PCNHS is a small school, but instead of succumbing to the temptation of being insignificant, it gathered all her trials and all the frustration and all many challenges to develop one solid muscle after another... and it just waited for the right opportunity and with good faith, in its heart, took one single but very significant blow. At the end of the day, the PCNHS is excelling it once became the 2018 Best Performing School for 3 consecutive years.

However, the victory narrative is too familiar that we forget about the context of both stories. We forget that before David defeated the giant, he had been defeating wolves, bears, and then lions. His challenges evolved from one small threat and they became bigger and bigger.

Now, back in 1979, due to the increasing problem of enrollment in the school, the National Government provided a Bagong Lipunan building into the school. Then, in 1978, another Bagong Lipunan building with four classrooms was added. The continuous increase in enrollment motivated the then-councilor Jaime Bugnosento to file a city resolution for the creation of Barangat High School in the city so the do not have to be crowded in PCNHS and BCNHS.

PCNHS wasn't different, the school used to be a house full of problems, but the school found its inspiration from selfless teachers, parents, and the different Departments who worked hand and hand to make the small school a little bit better for the children to learn and build their dreams to pick themselves up from poverty. Moreover, by the virtue of executive order no. 189, PCNHS was nationalized in July and was renamed Pines City National High School (PCNHS) in 1987.

Then in 1990, PCNHS started with the special science class where the students are given an allowance from the city Government. However it was moved at the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS), After that in 2009, the school started another special class, The Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) class and also the Special Program in Arts (SPA) class and it lives to this day.

The challenges are far from gone. Now, the school grows bigger with eight buildings including the under-construction building to accommodate the fast-growing population of PCNHS. With good faith within our hearts through the leadership of Whitney Dawayen, our school principal, plus the innovative aptitudes of the teachers and other staff, and their creativity, but most of all their good-natured hearts, we could file these challenges one after another, and we'll turn them into muscle and we'd take another blow...again, and again, we'd turn of all giant which will come our way, Tumble!

I remember how funny the feeling of slicing through the soft, white, and dreamlike, mist. I told myself that this fog is where God belongs.

The fog is a reminiscent of glorious sunrises and cherish sunsets.

The sun always reminds me of my childhood memories with my mom as we watched the sun setting while we are walking in Burnham park, in view of the pond where lovers, friends, and seniors recollected and where the cleanly cut grass offered momentary abode to people. As I balanced carefully to her shoulders, we waited for the lights to disappear, and watched the faltering gold sunlight being replaced with the light of posts, shop bulbs, and lights of the moon itself.

On our way home, we carved through the fog, sheltered by our jacktes but pleased by it's presence anyway. I remembered how funny the feeling of slicing through the soft, white, and dreamlike, must. I told myself that this is how heaven must feel, that that this white cool element is where God belongs. I've never got past by that imaginations even now that I am already fourteen years old. I would still walk through the fog sometimes and snatch of that memory that interrupted my daydream and thoughts of to-dos.

But that memory is all I have. My mother started to be busy with her work to the point that she doesn't already have time for us. She no longer prepare our breakfast in the morning and take my siblings to school. With that , I've just given my full attention to my studies. The declining shade of the sun, the fog, the treasured Burnham Park, and the stories are what is left of that childhood sojourn.

A Traitor

Betrayal, a wound that cuts so deep,

A pain that grips my heart and makes it weep.

The trust I gave, now shattered in pieces,

My soul left bare, as the memory increases.

I thought you were my friend,

My confidant, my ally,

but now I see the truth, your betrayal, a sly lie.

You spoke sweet words, but your actions told another tale,

And now I'm left to pick up the pieces, and to no avail.

Did you not think of me, of what you'd leave behind?

Or was it all just a game, you played in your mind?

Your lies have left me broken, with nothing left to hold.

But memories of the past, and stories left untold.

Betrayal, a word that will haunt me forever,

A reminder of the pain, the loss I cannot ignore,

But I'll rise again, stronger than before,

With the scars of betrayal etched upon my core.

For I am not definited by your actions, your deceit,

I am more than a victim, more than just defeat.

I'll take this pain and turn it into strength,

And use it to more forward, to go to great lengths.

So, tank you for the lessons, for that scars you've left,

I'll use them to create something beautiful, something deft.

For betrayal may break me, but it will never define,

The person I am, the one who will always shine.

Mental Health And Bullying

Mental health is so tight,

It requires our deepest care and respect,

We must never forget,

That it can be greatly affected,

By the daunting affects of bullying.

Bullying has a way of bringing you down,

It can make one feel like a clown,

It can take your self-esteem and thrown it out of town,

It can erode one's mental health and make them frown.

We must work to combat bullying,

And make sure it never keeps raging.

Lift one another up, especially our youth.

To the instill a sense of courage, love, and truth.

Mental health affects us every day,

We must ensure that our young minds can stay strong

By understanding the importance of friendship,

And by teaching our kids to treat each other kindly

And fairly.

School Canteen: Noticed or Unnoticed?

The Pines City National High School (PCNHS) board should give more attention to the situation of their canteen.

Due to the canteen's narrow space, the students always experience being pushed by someone when they're having their "Health Break" at 9:40 to 10:00 for grades 7 and 8 which results to a fight or their snacks being spilled. Providing more space to accommodate all the students even though the school is just a small one or do not have enough space can lessen these issues and concerns.

Because of the lesser time given to them, the students enter their classrooms late. A 20 minutes breaks is not enough for them because they are being stucked buying and waiting for their snacks. Due to their being wasted at the canteen many students are still secretly eating their snacks during class hours. As a result, they are not able to focus on what the teacher is discussing.

No matter how big or small, "If there's a will, there's a way". With the help of the school and canteen staff, teachers, parents, and student, this problem can be solved. Let us all maintain the school facilities being a better place for everyone not a room for problems and fight.

Wearing of School Uniforms: Optional

By: Honeylin Talagtag

Although there is a DepED order that public schools will not be required to wear uniforms for the school year 2022-2023, Pines City National High School (PCNHS) still advised their students to wear their proper school uniforms.

Duterte claimed that wearing of school uniforms "is not a strict requirement" citing rising cost and economical losses bought on by the Covud-19 outbreak. However, let us not discount the fact that it is also necessary.

Wearing of proper school uniforms would also help us in saving money because we no longer need to purchase clothes regularly. This can also lessen the laundry of a family every week.

It also reduces your thinking or worries about what to wear every single day because you can use your uniform 2 to 3 days a week.

Additionally, because uniforms are modest attire most of us are likely to be tempted to show off our personal tastes in fashions.

Wearing of school uniforms also symbolizes or shows our desire to be united with our school in terms of following the school regulations.

Even though wearing of school uniforms are not mandated, we still encourage every students to wear their uniforms knowing the fact that it shows or symbolizes our identity as a student.

Students are suffering from lack of public transportation and traffic.

As a grade 8 students of Pines City National High School (PCNHS)

I have also experienced being late going to school due

to lack of public transportation and also due to heavy traffic.

By: Cherry Nica Segyep

Thru observations, students who are getting late going to school are missing some activities on their first period. As a result, they are given deductions on their score in the activity.

Teachers are also getting mad to their late students because they're getting disturbed and disappointed because they thought that they are not responsible enough to woke up early to attend their classes.

Because of being late, students are also being punished or getting asked for payments to be added to their classroom funds.

The reason why the students are getting late going to school is the traffic. The jeepneys are being stucked by the heavy traffic and because of this they arrived at the terminal late.

Another reason is, other drivers prefer to drive other public transportation like taxi. From this generation drivers now prefer to drive taxi because they can get a higher income.

Also other students are staying up late at night because of playing games instead of doing their homeworks. As a result, they wake up to late in the morning which causes them to be late at school.

With the given reasons above, there are many factors that affect students going to school late thus resulting to consequences.

Benefits of Solar Energy in Agriculture

https://www.dynamicslr.com/solar-energy-applications-in-agriculture/

Solar energy is a clean, renewable and reliable source of energy. It can be used to power devices in agriculture , including irrigation pumps and motor vehicles. This will provide farmers with a reliable source of energy that can reduce energy costs and will help to protect the environment.

Solar energy can also be used to provide power to livestock. This can provide them with light and heat and can allow them to produce a higher yield. Livestock kept indoors can also be fed using solar energy.

In many and different areas of the Philippines, agricultural land is unusable due to unsuitable soil conditions. This means that many farmers have to abandon the land that they have worked for generations and to return to the city just to find work. By investing in solar technology, the government could help these farmers reclaim their land and could also improve their lives in the process.

Despite these potential benefits, solar energy has not yet received a sufficient attention from policy makers in the Philippines. As a result, it is rarely used by the country's agricultural sector. Because of this, local farmers continue to rely on outdated energy technologies and they are exposed to the risk of frequent power outages. This presents a very important problem, as a inadequate access to reliable sources of energy, this can have a serious impact on productivity and progress.

The benefits of using solar power in agriculture are obvious. It is more efficient, environmentally friendly, than the traditional energy sources making it more cost-effective and affordable for the farmers. It also allow them to become more self-sufficient and to reduce the need to import fossil fuels from the overseas. Additionally, this can help them to overcome one of the major challenges facing the Philippine agricultural sector today the high cost of energy if more farmers started using solar energy, it would drastically reduce the demand for fossil fuels and would help protecting the environment at the same time.
